A Brief History of Lone Peak Volleyball

Lone Peak High School is located in Highland, Utah. The school opened in 1997. Lone Peak prides itself on setting high standards in education as well as in sports. Not only did the 2004 Knights volleyball team defend their 2003 state championship title, but they also maintained an impressive 3.7 GPA average. In 2005 the Lone Peak varsity volleyball team received the "game Plan/AVCA Award," its first national recognition for academics. Stressing achievement, the current team maintains an impressive GPA. The Lady Knights are not only getting it done on the volleyball court, but are representing themselves well in the classroom.

The women's volleyball program has grown over the years, becoming one of the more competitive teams in Utah. Deanna Meyer has coached the Knights since 2000. In that year the Knights competed in the 4A State tournament for the first time.  The Knights continued to improve under Coach Meyer's leadership, placing in the top eight during the 2001 season. It was just two years later that the team was able to achieve a first place finish in Region VII.

The 2003 team went on to become the first Lone Peak volleyball team to take first in state, defeating Region VII Co-Champions Pleasant Grove in the 4A State Finals.  In 2004, Lone Peak High School dominated Utah High School Athletics by competing in seven state title championships and winning five of them. Because of these efforts, Lone Peak received the 4A All-Sports Award. The 2004 volleyball team returned to defend their state title against Pleasant Grove and once again took first in the state, setting the standard for the future of Lone Peak volleyball.

The 2005 Lone Peak volleyball team competed for their first year as a 5A high school classification. The Knights played in the 5A Utah State Tournament taking 2nd in the State. Two Lone Peak players were named to the Deseret News' All-tournament team.  In 2006, the Lone Peak volleyball team continued to excel throughout the season, and again closed it out with the 2nd place title in the 5A division.
