How Can I Help?
We are so glad you asked!

There are many things this season for which we will need your help and support in order to be successful.

Tournaments:  During each tournament Lone Peak hosts, we need three parents for each 3-4 hour shift. Everyone needs to help at least once-- in order to cover all the shifts at all the tournaments, some families will need to volunteer two parents or two different shifts.
  • Players are expected to work the tournaments they don't play-- this means that the Freshman and Senior girls need to sign up for shifts during the Medieval. The Sophomores and Freshmen will work shifts during the Rocky Mountain Champions' Classic.
    • Rocky Mountain Champions' Classic: September 9th & 10th
    • The Medieval: September 16th & 17th
  • We need a parent to take charge and coordinate the volunteers for each of these tournaments-- making sure that all necessary shifts are filled. Could you do this for us?
Fundraising:  We will need parents to handle paperwork for the cookie-dough fundraiser (making sure everyone turns in their forms on time, etc), with distribution of the dough to the girls on the delivery day, and we need someone to take charge of laying out the Media Guide.
  • Cookie Dough:
    • The afternoon that the cookie dough is delivered to the school we will need parents to help get it distributed.
  • Media Guide: we have asked each player to try to bring in $500 in sponsorships. This may be done through one large sponsorship or several smaller ones. Feel free to print this document and take it with you when you approach businesses.
    • $550 = full-page ad; $350 = half-page ad; $150 = quarter-page ad.
    • Point out to your prospective sponsors that we are perennial favorites in the state tournament-- we are asking them to sponsor a very successful program!
    • Don't forget to take cookie-sales paperwork with you-- if a business can't sponsor, hopefully you can talk them in to a box of cookies. :)
    • Remember-- we need the businesses to send their advertisements to us ASAP-- if they don't have something digital that can be emailed to us, ask for a hard copy, and we will scan it.

Game-Day Dinner:  As an investment in the health of our players we ask our parents to take turns providing dinner on game days. In this way we can make certain that the girls eat something nutritious on those days. For away games, we do "sack lunches." We'll need a parent coordinator for this-- someone who makes sure there is an "upperclassman" parent and a "underclassman" parent assigned to each game, and who calls to remind them of their responsibility.  New parents:  Please don't feel that you need to provide anything fancy-- some of the veteran parents can give you excellent advice on the most cost-efficient ways to do this.  It should not cause financial distress.

End-of-season: Senior Night and Closing Banquet.  At the last home game of the season we'll honor our graduating seniors, and we'll need parent help to organize this.  (JV players and parents should take the primary responsibility.)  After the season is complete we will hold a closing banquet. Parent volunteers organize the location, menu, and other set-up details.  If you are interested in producing slideshow reminiscences for the banquet, we would LOVE to hear from you.

Chicago:  The Chicago trip is a great experience for our Varsity team, but it comes with a great deal of organizational details. Paperwork is generated, forms need to be sorted, counted, and checked off, an entertainment activity needs to be approved and scheduled ... We can always use help getting everything set-up for this trip.

Clothing Order:  Again, paperwork is generated, forms need sorting, sizes need counting, there is a lot to keep track of, girls to track down and pester until everything is filled out properly and turned in.  This is critical at the beginning of the season to get everyone in appropriate gear as quickly as possible.  If you are in a position to volunteer during after school practice time to help us insure that payments are recorded and the right gear goes to the right girl, we would love your assistance.

Swing for Life: the Dig Pink Game.  Statistically, one in every eight women will develop breast cancer at some point-- this means that nearly all of us will face this disease, whether ourselves or through our relation to a mother, sister, daughter, or friend.  Swing for Life is our major charity focus, as it allows us to send money directly to the Huntsman Institute here in Utah.  Some of the things associated with that match are as follows:
  • Dig-meter/Ace-meter: we hope to secure sponsors to donate to Swing for Life on a per-ace and per-dig basis at this match.  We would like to use large meters during the match to visually demonstrate how much the sponsors will be donating.
    • Would you be willing to be in charge of signing up parent volunteers to run the ace-meter and dig-meter?
    • Would you be willing to run a meter for us during that match?
    • Could your business sponsor a meter (make a per-dig or per-ace donation commitment) during one or more games of the Varsity match)? Do you know someone at a business that could? let us know if you have a business connection that would be interested in a charitable tax-write-off! ; )
  • Pledges: Players will be given pledge-sheets and will ask friends and neighbors to sponsor the team-- based on the total number of digs made during the Varsity Match.
    • Last year during Region play our digs-per-match ranged from as low as 24 to as high as 90.
    • If those you contact are nervous about making the gamble, they can choose to make a simple donation (flat amount, without a per-dig pledge). Checks should be made out to: Swing for Life.
  • What else can we do to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer? if you can help, let us know.
